HELMEPA’s Action Month for the Marine Environment has been concluded
The “Action Month for the Marine Environment” coordinated by HELMEPA in Greece in the framework of the International Coastal Cleanup campaign came to an end. This year’s initiative was supported by National Geographic, as Strategic Communications’ Partner. In the context of this cooperation, on 4 October, HELMEPA together with National Geographic of Fox Networks Group Greece carried out a cleanup of the beach and forest area of Schinias, which is one of the most important ecosystems in the Attica region. The activity was implemented in the framework of 21CF Impact Week, a global initiative of 21st Century Fox, of which FOX Networks Group Greece is part of. Thousands of staff members of the company throughout the world participated in the initiative, supporting in parallel the “Planet or Plastic” campaign of National Geographic, with the aim to reduce single use plastics in our daily lives. Participants also included 65 schoolchildren and teachers of the Primary School of Tymvos Marathona and the 3rd Primary School of Ag. Anargyroi.
Altogether, 90 beach and underwater cleanups took place across the country, with the enthusiastic participation of more than 3,000 volunteers, kids and adults. The activities were carried out by members of HELMEPA Junior and entities cooperating with HELMEPA at Aegina, Agathonissi, Alexandroupolis, Chalkidiki, Chania and Chersonissos in Crete, Chios, Corfu, Epanomi in Thessaloniki, Episkopi in Rethymnon, Evia, Glyfada, Imeros in Rodopi, Kalymnos, Katakolon, Kato Zakros in Lasithi, Kea, Loutraki, Marathia in Thessaly, Marathonas, Monemvasia, Naxos, Nisyros, Paleo Faliro, Palairos in Aetolia-Acarnania, Parga, Piraeus, Portes in Arcadia, Psara, River Kalamas in Ioannina, Rhodes, Samos, Tinos, Varkiza and Vouliagmeni. In Attica and Piraeus cleanups were also organized by the HELMEPA Members Danaos Shipping, DNV-GL, Ionia Management, Lamda Flisvos Marina, Polembros Shipping και Tsakos Columbia Shipping.
Cleanups’ results will be announced at the end of November.
