HELMEPA – Axion Hellas cooperation successfully kicked-off
HELMEPA – Axion Hellas cooperation has successfully being launched at a mission at Psara and Volissos (Northern Chios) from 19 to 23 September, just a few days after a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed by the two organizations at HELMEPA’s offices.
The four-day operation full of various activities started on the historic island of Psara, where the numerous volunteers of the mission arrived on time on Axion Hellas boats, despite the strong winds. Members of HELMEPA scientific staff participated in the cultural group of the mission, which also comprised the following organizations: WWF, Together for Children, Institute of Preventive Medicine Environmental and Occupational Health Prolepsis, International Olympic Truce Center, M.V. Vardinoyannis Foundation / Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Organization, Hellenic Police – Cyber Crime Unit, MOPTIL, MANA, National Opera – Faros Wind Ensemble.
At both locations of the 6th Axion Hellas mission, doctors of various specialties provided as always free preventive as well as specialized medical care to local citizens of all ages. At the same time, the cultural group organized informative speeches and seminars for the local communities and various cultural, sport and environmental activities at schools.
HELMEPA had the pleasure to contribute to this exceptional initiative, which for the first time included an environmental aspect, with presentations for children and adults on the marine environment and the plastic pollution issue, educational activities and experiments for primary and secondary school students and coordination of two voluntary beach clean-ups, at the beaches of Katsouni (Psara) and Vakelonas (Chios).
Our warm thanks go to Axion Hellas and all participating organizations and volunteers for the excellent collaboration and spirit of mutual help and teamwork which characterized every minute of this mission, the teachers of all levels who embraced the activities at schools as well as the Municipalities of Psara and Amani (Volissos) for their hospitality and for the closing dinner kindly offered to the members of the mission.
