The Hellenic Institute of Marine Technology Award of 2018 presented to HELMEPA
On the 4th and 5th December 2018, the 12th Annual Meeting of the Hellenic Institute of Marine Technology (H.I.M.T.) took place at the Eugenides Foundation. The theme of the two-day conference was “MARINE TECHNOLOGY IN 2020: SMARTER & GREENER”, focusing on the challenges and trends that will mark the future of global shipping after 2020.
The presentations covered issues related to the safety of autonomous ships and systems and ways to improve ships, making them more environmentally friendly and more viable business wise. The main conclusions of the conference highlighted the need to invest in education to facilitate the transition to new technologies and the implementation of new regulations as well as concerns on whether the new stricter legislation will affect the efficiency of ships.
On the evening of 5th December, at the Yacht Club of Greece, the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association – HELMEPA was presented with the H.I.M.T. Award 2018 for its contribution to the cultivation and advancement of environmental consciousness among the Greek shipping community. The Award was received by HELMEPA’s Chairman, Dr. George Gratsos, who stressed that the Association will continue its efforts to raise the environmental awareness of both seafarers and the younger generations in Greece.
The evening came to a close with the Institute’s Annual Dinner in honor of its guests.
