Cooperation with the Fullbright Foundation in Komotini
Following an invitation by the organizers, we participated in an educational seminar titled “Environmental Awareness and Education” of the Fulbright Foundation, on 4 April, in Komotini. Τhe seminar was addressed to Fullbright scholars and Primary and Secondary Education teachers of the Periphery of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace in the framework of the Foundation’s Train the Trainer program.
Invited participants were welcomed by Ms Els Siakos-Hanappe, Coordinator of Fulbright’s Greek Program and following, HELMEPA’s representative, Costas Triantafillou spoke about the marine environment, its ecosystemic services, threats by uncontrolled human activity with an emphasis and plastic pollution and the need to protect and manage it sustainably. Of great interest was the presentation of Dr Kristin Jacobson, Professor of Stockton University in New Jersey, titled “Climate Change Is Stranger than Fiction: Incorporating Cli-Fi in STEM Education”.
The speeches were followed by an open dialogue with the participating teachers, while the Fulbright Foundation and HELMEPA committed to continue this fruitful educational cooperation in other parts of the country.
