HELMEPA celebrates World Environment Day with a new TV spot
On the occasion of the World Environment Day, the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association (HELMEPA), completing this year 37 years of operations, is setting up a TV and radio spot aiming to raise awareness on the major issue of plastic waste. With the motto “NO plastics – NO garbage in our seas and on our beaches” and starring HELMEPA’s Seagull, we call on people to consider the consequences of the inexorable use of plastics that end up in the marine and wider natural environment.
World Environment Day, established in 1972 by the United Nations General Assembly (UN), is celebrated each year on June 5th. This day is an international opportunity to raise awareness on the most pressing environmental issues of modern times as well as a personal challenge for every citizen to reflect on the consequences of these issues, stimulate awareness and take action in the matter of the environmental protection.
Since the beginning of May, the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association (HELMEPA) has organized 85 beach cleanups across the country and aims to double this number by the end of October 2019. Participants may include students, parents, teachers, port authorities, local authorities, companies, embassies, environmental organizations, mountaineering and nature clubs, diving centers, sailors, sailing clubs, local associations and volunteer groups.
The TV spot will be broadcasting throughout the summer season on Greek TV stations and is available at https://youtu.be/b2MKqMiZtgE.
