We welcome the new Members who recently enrolled in HELMEPA.
Specifically, as Associate Corporate Member company SEABORNE SHIPBROKERS S.A. and as Full Member the ship-owning company of LNG “GASLOG GEORGETOWN” under the management of Gaslog LNG Services Ltd. Moreover, 4 Greek Merchant Marine officers enlisted as Associate Members, a category reaching now a total of 13,994.
The “HELMEPA Junior” Program celebrates tomorrow, November 10th 2020, 27 years of operation. The idea to create the Program resulted from the evaluation of questionnaires completed by approximately 150,000 students, who visited HELMEPA’s environmental exhibitions between 1983 and 1992.
With the participation of 60 professional and amateur fishermen, representatives of Port Authorities and companies/organizations in Greece and Cyprus, HELMEPA’s online Workshop on “Safety at Sea for the Fishing Sector” was carried out yesterday, November 5th, in collaboration with CYMEPA and the fishing academy ‘Enaleia’.
It was with profound sadness that we were informed of the passing away of William O’Neil, former Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization – IMO and a warm supporter of HELMEPA’s mission.
On Tuesday 27 October 2020, a web-meeting took place between representatives of HELMEPA Member Companies and Rear Admiral Richard Timme, Assistant Commandant for Prevention Policy, US Coast Guard. This was yet another initiative of HELMEPA, as the pandemic made it impossible to arrange the established annual meeting between Member operators and the leadership of the US Coast Guard, at their headquarters, in Washington, DC.
As part of the International Coastal Cleanup and in the spirit of the Memorandum of Cooperation with HELMEPA, the Ionian Islands Region organized underwater cleanup in the area "Kaikia" of the Old Port of Corfu. The aim was to raise public awareness about waste pollution in the seas and coasts.
In an original and socially responsible way, the Propeller Club celebrated the 85th anniversary of its founding, by symbolically cleaning the Votsalakia Beach in Piraeus, on Sunday, October 25th.
We welcome the multinational coating production company Jotun Hellas as HELMEPA Associate Corporate Member. The company has been the official sponsor of the Aegean Rally for the last five years, which HELMEPA supports as it is conducted under the common motto “To Save our Seas”.
On Wednesday 7 October, with the support of the Region of Ionian Islands and the cooperation of the Directorate for Primary Education of Corfu, an online presentation of the “HELMEPA Junior” Program was held to teachers in Corfu.
