AUSMEPA’s Executive Officer, Ms Julie Nash, visits HELMEPA
It was with great pleasure that we welcomed AUSMEPA’s Executive Officer, Ms Julie Nash to our offices during the third week of October. Ms Nash has been leading the AUSMEPA office for the past seven years and is working with HELMEPA in order to expand the cooperation between the two associations, within the spirit of the MEPA philosophy.
During her visit to Athens, Ms Nash had the opportunity to see first-hand HELMEPA’s activities such as the voluntary beach cleanup of the Vravrona wetland and the educational visits of students and their teachers at both the environmental Exhibition in Piraeus and the one in Palaio Faliro. There she talked to the children about the Great Barrier Reef and the importance of a healthy marine environment for both Greece and Australia.
Moreover, HELMEPA’s Director General and Secretariat staff had the chance to learn more about AUSMEPA’s Maritime Emissions Portal and its cooperation with ports to measure ships’ emissions. Ms Nash’s visit to Greece was a valuable opportunity for both MEPAs not only to exchange information on current projects but also to discuss ways for closer cooperation, especially in the field of environmental education and awareness, despite the distances separating the two countries.
