28 Feb 2020

An event titled “Going single-use plastic free: The next step to sustainable growth” was organized by the American College of Greece in collaboration with A.C. Laskaridis Foundation on February 4th at the premises of the American College of Greece.

The Minister for the Environment and Energy, Mr. Kostis Hatzidakis, was the keynote speaker. The aim of the event was to enhance the debate on disposable plastics and their environmental impact, the next steps for a sustainable future and the presentation of the Greek National Plan presented by the Minister.

The two panels of speakers sparked an interesting discussion on the topics’ From Miracle Material to Major Pollutant: Plastic in our seas’ and ‘What can we do? Drafting solutions for the next day’.

HELMEPA participated in the first panel with Executive Coordinator Ms. Christiana Prekezes, who addressed the extent of the problem, presented data from voluntary Coastal Cleanups in Greece and encouraged everyone to rethink about their daily habits and limit disposable plastics.
