We are pleased to announce that we have just published the 100th issue of the newsletter “HELMEPA Seagulls”, of the environmental educational program “HELMEPA Junior”.
Giving priority to the safety of speakers and participants, we continue after the summer break the seminars of the 2020 Refresher Training Program in the form of webinars. The beginning was made with the seminars “Avoiding Pitfalls during PSC Inspections” (15-17 / 9) and “Emergency Preparedness and Response” (24-25 / 9), with the participation of more than 90 and 70 office executives and bridge and engine officers respectively, from 24 Member managing companies.
With the beginning of autumn, we would like to express our warmest gratitude to all the print and electronic media that promoted gratis HELMEPA’s Clean Seas and Beaches messages during the summer months.
The International Coastal Cleanup Campaign, organized every fall, is the oldest and broadest public and coastal waste awareness effort, an initiative by the non-governmental organization Ocean Conservancy.
HELMEPA continues to support young scientists in their effort to obtain further educational qualifications for their personal development as well as for the benefit of society, by awarding scholarships for postgraduate studies in the maritime field and that of environmental sciences. The 3 new scholars for the 2020-2021 academic year will be added to the 43 young people, who since 1998 have received HELMEPA scholarships for studies at well-known universities in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Canada, France, Spain, Cyprus and Greece.
HELMEPA’s first online Workshop titled “Safety at Sea” was successfully held on July 2nd, with 140 participants from Greece and Cyprus.
The Covid-19 pandemic may have not allowed the coastal cleanup campaign, coordinated by HELMEPA every May throughout Greece, to go ahead, but we are pleased to notice that our Member and cooperating entities are organizing coastal cleanup actions throughout Greece.
On Monday 29 June 2020, following the elections of the General Assembly of the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association-HELMEPA, the elected nominees, according to the Articles of Association, convened and formed the Board of Directors with the following composition:
