Flisvos Marina announced as HELMEPA’s "Safety Ambassador"

LAMDA Flisvos Marina S.A., HELMEPA’s Corporate Member since 2008, is the first mega-yacht marina in Greece to receive the title of “Safety Ambassador”.

 

This initiative is part of the three-year (2019-2022) project titled “Enhancing the Understanding of New and Enduring Challenges in Maritime Safety Culture in the Eastern Mediterranean” implemented by HELMEPA, in collaboration with Corporate Members Lloyd’s Register and DYNAMARINe in Greece, CYMEPA in Cyprus, and with the kind support of Lloyd's Register Foundation (LRF)*.

 

The aim of the project is to reduce maritime accidents and protect human life at sea in Greece, Cyprus, and the wider Eastern Mediterranean region. Means to achieve the goal include training seminars and distance learning programs, the Voluntary Incident Reporting Platform – VIRP, and a wide information and awareness campaign titled "Stay Safe at Sea" www.staysafeatsea.gr, which is addressed to seafarers, fishermen, motor yacht crew, sailors, and all those engaged in marine activities professionally or for leisure.

 

Receiving the "Safety Ambassador" flag and awareness raising material of the project from the interim Director General of HELMEPA Mr. Costas Triantafillou, the CEO of LAMDA Flisvos Marina S.A. Mr. Stavros Katsikadis stated: "Proactiveness for safety and protection of human life is the main operational principle of Flisvos Marina. The recent certification of our marina according to ISO 45001: 2018 concerning the operation and management of a fully integrated Health and Safety Management System in the workplace, proves in practice our beliefs. In this spirit, we fully support HELMEPA’s initiative towards enhancing maritime safety culture in the Eastern Mediterranean and we are very happy to be part of this very important effort".

Following, Mr. Triantafillou mentioned: "We thank LAMDA Flisvos Marina S.A. for their continuous support and we invite all sea tourism entities, marinas, port facilities and other marine stakeholders in Greece and beyond to become HELMEPA Supporters, contributing to our joint effort to cultivate a spirit of maritime safety and pollution prevention, in order to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals".

 

Mr. Katsikadis was also presented with the HELMEPA’s Corporate Supporter plaque for 2021.

 

The next scheduled joint activity of the project is the "Safety at Sea for yachts and mega-yachts" webinar, which will take place on Thursday, 4th March. The workshop can be attended free of charge by yacht officers and crews, recreational boaters and other interested individuals in Greece and Cyprus, who will receive a Certificate of Attendance from HELMEPA’s Maritime Training Center for Pollution Prevention, Safety at Sea and Environmental Awareness.
