HELMEPA’s Month of Action continues with beach and underwater cleanups
With the support of nice weather and the enthusiastic participation of more than 2,500 volunteers in 60 coastal and underwater cleanups up until now, the 2019 International Coastal Cleanup Campaign of Ocean Conservancy continues. The campaign, co-ordinated by HELMEPA in Greece for the 29th year, will end at the end of October and by then it is estimated that 5,500 volunteers will be involved in cleanup activities in various areas of the country.
Indicatively, coastal and underwater cleanups have already been carried out by HELMEPA volunteers and partners in Attica, Alexandroupolis, Parga, Kefalonia, Patras, Nea Agchialos, Aegina, Agathonisi, Corfu, Katerini, Thessaloniki, Rethymnon, Thessaloniki Loutraki, Evia and the banks of Pinios river.
At the same time, HELMEPA’s “Vorias” program continues with the support of the A.C. Laskaridis Charitable Foundation, with cleanups of north coasts on the islands of Naxos, Aegina, Tinos, Poros and in North Evoia.
As part of the campaign, a cleanup action of the Vravrona wetland is planned on October 18th with the participation of environmental organizations – Members of the Marine Environment Cooperation Network.
